Welcome to round three of the wedding poem challenge - "Something New!".

I know that for those of you in the northern hemisphere, you'll be heading towards longer warmer days, and maybe that is good reading weather for you (I know it is for me). And treating yourself to something new -- recently published, recently acquired, a new enthusiasm -- is a great way to celebrate that. For those of us heading towards hibernation in the southern hemisphere (yes, I know, what I call cold is what some of you call shorts weather), curling up with a brand new book is still a treat.

So, with no further ado, tell us what new thing you are hoping to read in the month of June!

I want to read the six Witcher novels, after buying a box set last month. Not new, but new-to-me. I've read the first two books (The Last Wish & Sword of Destiny) which are both collections of short stories, but the next five books were written and planned as An Epic Fantasy Saga and I'm looking forward to experiencing them. The first two books are definitely rather 90s-fantasy-written-by-a-bloke in the way women characters are treated, but they were compelling and often funny reading. I do like the authorial voice which is generally unfussy plain English, with an often dry wit, and I can't help wondering whether the original Polish has the same feel to it.

I have a pre-order due on 7 June, The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian, and want to waste no time reading it on arrival.

"The City Beautiful" by Aden Polydoros. I've never read this author and have only heard about it through recommendations. I also relatively recently learned about "Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean" by Edward Kritzler, and I'd like to finally read that this month because a friend is reading it, too.

Since the theme is "Something New", I'll go with a genre I haven't tried since middle school: horror. Except this time I don't want to read Goosebumps, but I'd like to try my hand at "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson. I haven't watched the tv series so I'm going mostly unspoiled, but I think I could handle this type of horror. Maybe ^^'

I'm currently reading a recently published book for my book club, but that feels a bit like cheating since I was... already reading it for book club. (A Desolation Called Peace)

I have a new book on the docket after a post over in fandom_secrets that will be a new-to-me author in a favorite genre, but also.... I think I would have read it in June anyway! (Wise Child)

I have a lot of ebook backlog, so I think finishing the one I bought most recently will be a nice way to dig into that and to engage with the challenge to my satisfaction. (The Venus Project)

I would like to read some of these 'new to me this year' books:

1. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
2. Murder at the Magnolia Inn by Helena Marchmont
3. The Song of Achilles by Madeleine Miller
4. Double Cross by Ben Macintyre
5. The Alchemist of Fire and Fortune by Gigi Pandian

I'm expecting 2 library loans:
* The Man who Died Twice by Richard Osman
* The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams.

Before I'm going to get through any of the above though, I need to finish reading some that are most definitely not new to me - War and Peace and The Cranford Chronicles which have been taking... a long time.
