72 hour Trainreads Challenge
Mar. 11th, 2022 12:53 pmHi all. I am actually only spending 4 hours on trains in the next 72, but I'm also committed to a lot of activity that's incompatible with updating a blog, so this may as well run the whole weekend. This is being posted approx 1pm Friday UK time, I'll post again approx 1pm Monday for a check-in.
To join in: set yourself a realistic goal or two, you could even try a crossover with
fred_mouse's Something Borrowed challenge!
Future plans: next weekend I'm definitely going nowhere so no Trainreads Challenge. The weekend after is completely up in the air, I might be going many places or none and will find out a few days beforehand. 1-3 April should be something like normal, and hopefully I'll run a 48-hour challenge that weekend.

Date: 2022-03-11 01:50 pm (UTC)Goal: finish anything I've already started. Any one book. Which may not be a realistic goal, but I've two more days, right?

Date: 2022-03-11 04:18 pm (UTC)I'm very curious about An Unkindness of Ghosts, but bounced off both times that I've tried to pick it up. Whoops.

Date: 2022-03-11 04:18 pm (UTC)I guess it depends on what kind of book you choose! Good luck!

Date: 2022-03-11 04:21 pm (UTC)Hmmm. I think I'd like to:
Which sounds like a lot, and I'm not quite sure if finishing A Marvellous Light over the weekend is really plausible, especially with the rugby game tonight... but let's see. The other stuff should be doable; I only have one story left to go in Exhalation, I live for books about virology, and the comics should go down easy.

Date: 2022-03-11 04:53 pm (UTC)I liked The Deep very much, but there's a reason my goals are usually "start a book" because I've learned to give myself permission to DNF pretty much anything.
(If my goal is "finish a book", I've either already read it, or have read enough of it that I'm confident I'll not hate it to the end)

Date: 2022-03-12 06:28 am (UTC)Thank you! The problem here is not so much the books, but my current attention span on anything is about ten minutes.
So far, I've achieved one chapter of the Norse Mythology book by Neil Gaiman, and started the Katherine Applegate kids book I picked up at the library yesterday -- my bet is on finishing the latter, if at all. But I have several books I've just stalled out on, and if I take a pile of them out to the verandah with me for an afternoon of reading, I will probably progress all of them, depending on how my attention span runs.

Date: 2022-03-12 06:29 am (UTC)A chapter sounds like a very sensible goal! I won't weigh in on the whole thing, because I have no idea how big a book it might be, but it is definitely a worthwhile stretch goal.

Date: 2022-03-12 11:43 am (UTC)I know that problem. :( I'm mostly fitting my reading in by nibbling at books between raids in FFXIV, lately!

Date: 2022-03-12 03:03 pm (UTC):( My current favourite game has a weekend event that started this morning and runs until Monday evening (I suspect it runs more sensible times for North Americans), and I intend to grind a bit, read a bit, etc, for a couple of hours tomorrow!
