Trainreads Challenge: 10-12 December

Hi all and welcome to the Trainreads Challenge, a semi-regular challenge inspired by my weekend usually including some long train journeys on which I would like to do some reading. Trainreads Challenges will be 24, 48 or 72 hours long, depending what my schedule is doing at the time.

This weekend I'm going to be on trains for 7-8 hours over a 48 hour period. I'm making this post at roughly 9am Friday my time (GMT) for goal-setting, and I'll make a check-in post at roughly 9am Sunday my time to see how we all get on.

Try to set yourself realistic goals given your schedule for the next 48 hours, and good luck!

I would be very interested in your thoughts on the first, having accidentally started the series on the second book. I also have the second and third on my new books TBR, so might move them up the goals list.

Like fred_mouse, I’d be interested in your thoughts on the first but more because I was thinking of getting it for someone else as a gift.

Good luck with your target.

It's going to be a weekend, but I want to try to reread The Ink Dark Moon, at least.

Maybe get started on Brinkwood. And/or add another, haven't decided (maybe Tales Of Ise).

My train reading is work day commute, so I was a bit confused by the dates -- reading the post makes more sense. My reading goals are to make progress on any/all of

  1. Piranesi
  2. Waking Romeo
  3. The Unspoken Name.

Two of those I'm moving from reading in ebook to paper, having acquired paper, and hope the reading will go faster. The other is still in ebook and I'm being recalcitrant about picking it up.

Hope your train journeys go smoothly and your reading is enjoyable!

Finished Piranesi. Given the length of Clarke's previous work, I was kind of surprised by how short this was, and thus how close to the end I already was!

It’s very different to her previous work in size! Did you enjoy it.

I did! I think the theme of my reading this year has been unreliable narrators, and this finished it off nicely. I like that it was cautiously optimistic in ending, because there were so many other options that I would have found unsatisfying.

I would like to try and finish listening to Iain M Banks ‘The Use of Weapons’. I’ve got a lot of stuff to do - cleaning, work around the house and making of Christmas presents so don’t so much have time to sit and read a paperback.

Good luck with the other stuff, and getting to the end of the book. Be interested in hearing what you think of it -- I haven't read it since my uni days, and have zero memory of it.

Between work and physical exhaustion (fine now, 12 hour nap worked wonders), I went with a single volume of manga and managed that. (Now to buy the other two volumes and rewatch the anime, I suppose.)

Yay for revitalising nap, and reading success!
