glinda: a pile of books with a tea cup on top of them and the word 'bibliotherapy' (bibliotherapy)
[personal profile] glinda posting in [community profile] readingtogether
Tis that time of year again, challenge season is upon us once more and filling our feeds with Inktober sketches and Nano planning sessions. Which can only mean one thing here at [community profile] readingtogether; it's time for the November Group Read!

Time to make a pile of the books that have been lurking unread on your shelves/under your bed/in a tottering pile/gathering digital dust on your e-reader (or in my case in boxes at my parents...) and commit to reading some of them during November.

As ever there will be weekly check-in posts with cheer-leading/commisserating as appropriate, and it will be super low pressure, you can sign up for 1 book (my own target this year is A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth in all it's door-step glory) or 10 books, whatever you like!

Anyone up for it?

I'll sign up again (because I can't see me managing to get anywhere with Nano and I stand a better chance of achieving this. I'm going to set my goal as 14 books, some of which will be library books and some will be audio. I would like to finish 14 books minimum, but although I'm going to state some of the books that I intend to try and tackle there are a few that I'm not sure I'm going to like so they may be abandoned before I finish them - I will still be aiming to complete the 14 regardless of abandoned books along the way.

1. Brilliance of the Moon - Lian Hearn
2. The Once and Future King - TH White
3. The Book of Merlyn - TH White (I actually have numbers 2 and 3 in both audio and paperback - so may tackle as a mix of both)
4. Pack Animals - Peter Anghelides
5. A Shiver of Snow and sky - Lisa Leddecke
6. The Girl with all the Gifts - M R Carey
7. Master of Petersburg - J M Coetzee
8. Talon - Julie Kagawa
9. Shadow of Night - Deborah Harkness
10. Gorky Park - Martin Cruz Smith
11. The Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
12. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying - Marie Kondo
13. Golden Bats and Pink Pigeons - Gerald Durrell
14. The Valley of Horses - Jean M Auel (this is also an audio)

The 14 listed are all on my shelves as at this stage I don't know which library books will turn up during November, so I may have to adjust accordingly. I'm on a wait list for one library audio that is 39+ hours long, so if that turns up it may hinder progress on anything else!

I'm going to list ten books with a goal of finishing at least four. These are all borrowed books, so I want to get them back to their rightful locations. I've started the one library book and two of the others, so I'm hopeful there. I'm also anticipating finishing others in the same time frame, because this list is all non-fiction.

1. 1493
2. Astounding
3. Coming out under fire
4-7. The story of the world, volumes 1-4
8. The book of Margery Kemp
9 John Stuart Mill - On Liberty
10. The Well education mind.

Great to see this again! I'll try to get at least one of my owned but unread books read.
