November Group Read Kick-Off Post
Nov. 2nd, 2018 01:32 pmNaturally, because these things always happen at the least convenient time, my internet fell over on Wednesday morning and has been tempermental ever since.
Anyway, there seemed to be enough interest to make the challenge worth running again so this is your somewhat belated kick-off post!
Basically this can be as big or as little of a commitment as you feel up to. Dependant on your reading speed/available time you can sign up to read one book or ten books. Doesn't matter how big or small the book, only that its something that has been taking up space on your book shelf (or case/box/tottering pile beside your bed) for some time and you've never quite got round to it.
Comment below with the books you'd like to get through this month...or feel free to boast away if you've already finished something!
I'll do regular check-in posts every Friday throughout November - happy reading!

Date: 2018-11-02 05:20 pm (UTC)* to listen to at least 2 of the following audio books
1. Miracle at Coney Island
2. Obernewtyn
3. Blood Whispers
4. The Luminaries
* to finish The Power of Three and read at least 2 of the following
1. Stories of your life/Arrival
2. The Chase
3. The Farm
4. Heretic
Looking at your criteria for the the books, I'm running a little fast and loose with them in regard to the first three listed audio books. The first two I have only just acquired, however, the first has been on my radar for quite a while and I've finally located a copy so am desperate to read it. The second is a re-read of the actual story, but this edition is also newly acquired,I have it in paper format and read it years ago - I've now acquired some later in the series and need to refresh my memory of the earlier parts. The third is a library loan that will be due back before the end of the month.
All other titles have been lurking for 2 or 3 years and so it's time I got started on them.
I am hoping that my goal is achievable despite also tackling Nanowrimo and think that I will do my audio listening while walking, doing chores and on the bus, the book reading may largely take place during my lunch breaks at work which may effect which of the books I can get through (some of them are large hardback versions - not ideal for carrying to work), but at this point I'm optimistic.
As of today, I'm part way through Diana Wynne Jones 'The Power of Three' and I started listening to 'Miracle on Coney Island' as I walked to an appointment.

Date: 2018-11-04 03:41 am (UTC)Tentatively, the starting list is (currently reading, unless otherwise mentioned)
1. The Moonlight Dreamers (Siobhan Curham) -- recently purchased
2. Hark! A Vagrant
3. Jackie French's Chook Book -- TBR long term resident
4. The Stars Askew (Rjurik Davidson)
5. A Skinful of Shadows (Frances Hardinge)
6. One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel Garcia Márquez)
Once I've finished two of these, I'll think about what else to add to the list.
Stretch goal: Any week where I read more than two books, the extra numbers will be added to the total for the month, so that I continue to challenge myself to finish two a week. This is because I'm working towards the longer term goal of having 20 or fewer books on the currently reading list at the beginning of 2019. Getting 8 books off the list in November would keep me on track.

Date: 2018-11-07 08:18 am (UTC)The library has demanded #4 back, and I've abandoned #2 and #6 in order to return them at the same time. I wasn't getting pleasure out of them, and it saves me a trip!
