February Check-in #1

Apologies I meant to do this on the weekend. What are you planning to read? Have you read anything this last weekend?

I've been working on "The Idiot" by Dostoyevsky (the new English translation) but it's a chonky boi!

I have several goals for February, some of which overlap

  • read/ return all the borrowed (library) ebooks - 6 books, two in progress
  • be on track with my reading goals as per recording things at storygraph (up to date on number of books, behind on number of pages)
  • have read at least one of the books acquired in 2025; stretch goal of four (some are quite small, a dedicated day of reading would be three easily)
  • finish Beowulf (Mariana Headley translation), which I've got quite a way through multiple times, and then forgotten about
  • get currently reading down under 15 (I think it is at 20)

Stretch goals

  • read something that fits one of the storygraph challenges that I've signed up for
  • currently reading under 10 (abandoning things will be required)
  • look at the 'paused' books on storygraph and see if I can get that number down as well (there are 35, some are library holds because I didn't finish them in time and I couldn't renew)
  • find at least one 'likely to be nominated for a Hugo' book to read ahead of the short list being released (I am not attempting to do nominations this year, I have read almost nothing)

This looks like a lot, but if I do less doomscrolling, I'll get lots read :)
