Well, how did it go?

It's the 15th, but please keep reading for as long as you'd like. ^_^

Thanks for taking part, and as a reminder: anyone can host a group read at any time.

Sorry to hear that you have been going through a lot of stress so far this year. Me, too. Hopefully life is going to get less stressful in the later half of the year.

But it sounds as if you got a lot of reading done and even some organising of future reading, yay! Kudos to you for going through with it despite all the stress. :-)

I finished my target book, a long (100+k) Good Omens fic and am partway through another (relatively short and easy) book.

Hooray! 🎉

And thank you for organizing!💕

1177 BC graphic novel done, several cookbooks and food history books done, After 1177 not quite alas; and a lot of browsing across something like a dozen rpg books because I couldn't decide if I wanted Shadowrun 2e or AD&D 2e, whoops. Also a handful of zines, Make A Zine, and two of my own novels (Reunification, Triskelion) because I probably need to stop being avoidant of my own stuff.

And I got started on a bunch of new or newly-reacquired books (Trinity core + tech manual, Rigger 2 [Shadowrun], Dataware [Alternity]) but flitting back and forth on top of the other books above means I didn't actually finish any of them. Whoops!

I'm sure there were other close brushes with stuff, I cycle things in and out so much oi

I finished all my manga volumes and Romanov, but I didn’t get the chance to tackle Howl’s Moving Castle, since I planned to use that as a read-aloud to practice diction and my dogs are a very unruly audience. I’ve got my checkout renewed, though, and I’m gonna try to tackle it this week.

Wow, so cool that you finished all of your manga volumes and another one! I hope you find time this week to get to Howl's Moving Castle. Maybe this weekend? *fingers crossed for you*

I actually read the entire thing today! Lots of fun— I can’t believe I actually got the dogs to sit still. ^-^

The good news is: I picked a book, "Nachtleuchten" by Maria Cecilia Barbetta, in German about Ballester, a part of Buenos Aires just before the military coup, the one connected to Perón's death.

More good news: I diligently read the first 280 of 520-ish pages as the concept intrigued me.

Now onto the bad news: But the language was just too flowery and very German - endless sentences and not much happening. I kept pressing on in hopes of it getting more interesting later on but it just didn't. So eventually sometimes this week, I switched to only reading the first paragraphs of each new chapter in order to see if it would get more interesting. I ended up reading a few chapters about a flamboyant gay hairdresser and his mother that way but ended up skipping most of the book. It never did get more interesting, at least not to me. I am counting as a DNF but at least it is gone from my paid TBR pile now.

In summary: I am counting it as a success. Although it is weird to find out that I no longer have the attention span for run-on sentences and flowery language I used to have.

I think it makes sense to let yourself skim or skip if the writing or content isn't working for you for whatever reason. And it's always good to move a book out of the TBR pile!

Yes, thank you for the affirmation. It was a bit disappointing to never really get into this book but I am glad I tried and that I still moved it out of my TBR pile this week. Yay!

I did not finish the one book I picked; at this point I think that I might abandon it for the near future as not something that is currently working for me.
