Check-in: Pick a book, any book!
Check in post! Tell us in the comments how you went. Did you finish the book? Did you make progress? Did you procrastinate and read something else instead? Did life or something else get in your way?
kalloway mentioned in the comments of the last check in that they will be running a challenge starting this weekend, so rather than having two challenges running at the same time, I'll put this one aside for this week, and start up some time in the New Year*.
* For values of 'new' and 'year' that are determined by the Gregorian Calendar. If I'm getting this pedantic, I should probably not be posting, but this is the last thing on tonight's to do list :)

It has been a very slow reading week, but I succeeded in making progress on my chosen book: The Lost Apothecary. I'm frustrated by the story. I can see the story reasons that things are happening the way they are, and there are interesting parallels and themes, but I am beyond frustrated at the behaviour of multiple characters.

I actually read my goodbye read, The Black Echo, today. Partly because I knew there would be a check-in post soon. But anyway I can honestly say I finished it before seeing this.
It was a gripping read, and I'm glad I reread it. In fact I'm looking forward to working through the rest of the books by this author I have, and then tracking down any more he may have written since in the library system. But I'm not going to keep them after reading. In fact I probably want to pace myself through them as it's quite a bleak setting (1990s LAPD, and a homicide detective still haunted by his service in Vietnam). I'll read the next one now and then cycle through some library books for a bit before coming back for more.
