Something Old Wrap up

I rather dropped the ball on this one, both in terms of meeting goals, and of remembering to post. What about the rest of you? Did you set a goal? Tell us all about the old books that you read, or thought about reading!

(Also: next episode in this four parter has been rescheduled to June, to give me a bit of time for current work deadlines to stop eating my motivation)

I had hopes of finishing three books, with a selection of three history non-fiction (progress on two), a re-read on a book I've not read in decades that i was partly through (progress), and several books I'd started and put down (I... might have DNFed one?). I did not. It was generally a slow reading month for me, given that I finished a total of five books, which included one novella (Fireheart Tiger, Aliette de Bodard, highly recommended), one collected comics volume, one graphic memoir, and two novels, one of which took me less than a week of commute time.

Sometimes we just have months where progress is slow. You might have not completed many but there was at least one good one so that's positive anyway.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why this particular month was slow -- there doesn't appear to have been anything much chewing time. But as you say, there are slow months, and i was happy with progress, I just ran out of steam on the challenge!

I didn't get through quite the ones I'd hoped, but looking back I didn't do too badly. I did manage to complete 3 that had been on my shelf since 2014 and two that had been there since 2016, an additional one that was written before 2000 (not already included in the ones listed above a couple of which would also have fitted that criteria). On top of that there were 2 non-fiction titles relating to historical events/people.

What's June's challenge going to be - just so that I can start to look for suitable book and make sure I don't read all the perfect fit ones before we get there (very unlikely that will happen!).

Well done on finishing those that had been on the shelf for so many years!

June's challenge is going to be 'something new'. Because it will be heading in to the miserable part of winter here, so I'm putting some exciting things aside. Also, I may end up travelling (using up travel credits from 2019!) with Youngest to Townsville, so want to be taking new-to-me and exciting things.

And then finishing up the four challenges either July (maybe) or August (more likely) with 'something blue'.

I had vague plans of finishing one of my "owned for over a year" books but got stuck on re-read (in translation, so also kind of new?) for book club.

In the end I finished reading a new translation of Zoroastrian hymns which I suppose is still "old" of a sort!

Well done! It might not be the old you were planning, but it is the old you did, so it is worth patting yourself on the back for it. Any reading is a win, in my books.
