We all have that book. The one we'll get to later. The one that doesn't get chosen. The one that's well-intentioned. (It's been sitting there for a long time.)

While it doesn't have to be the absolute oldest thing on your TBR shelf, if you even know what is, this is the week to read* something that's been waiting for awhile.

I'll post again at the end of the week to see how it went for you~

*read/listen/watch/play. Whatever media you choose is fine.

I have one book started that fits the category of long term residence at my abode (although not longest), that I am hoping to finish before the end of the year 'The Cranford Chronicles' by Elizabeth Gaskell - it's three not so short 'short' stories and I'm struggling with the last one - I enjoyed the first two but this one for some reason not so much. It's been lurking since 2014.

I've also got one on the go from 2019 that I want to finish and one that was acquired earlier this year - but this one is the first in a series where in order to read some of the old books on my shelf I needed to locate, acquire and read earlier books in series.

The first two of these are paperbacks and the third an audio. I'm not sure how much free time I'm going to get to actually sit with a book and just read but fingers crossed I'll get through at least these three. The audio is probably a safe bet as I can listen while doing other things.

I could make some comment here about going back to Scum Villain, seeing as I'm going to to be stuck at work all week and I don't have really much of a reading-backlog, but fuck it.

This week is FF Pixel Remaster.

I'm going bloody home.

This is a good nudge for me to finish at least one of those three library books I've had on my shelf for...let's say "a long time" and leave it at that.

Oh, you meanie, there are sooooo many choices. Umm. If I'm going with 'well-intentioned' then something either not in English, or non-fiction. (I have no clues what has been on my TBR shelf the longest. It dates from before Eldest was born, because I was buying second hand books as I found things I wanted, rather than to a reading schedule. small children + study + etc makes for never enough reading time).

Looking at the nearby shelf, one of

  • Plant Pathology
  • The Lean Startup, or
  • One of the italian kids non-fiction books that I keep meaning to just open and read a bit of.

Between writing the above comment, and going to actually do something about it, what I thought was the plant path book has turned into something else. Which means I have moved the dratted book, and I can no longer find it.

... I have, however, found a book I was gifted by my grandmother in 1990, which I have barely read. It is a cookbook, and I think there are two recipes I've ever tried. I mean, one of them is a recipe I have made at least once a year since then, but I should probably actually see what else is in there. I have now put that on my desk to try and shame myself to read some of it tomorrow (as I am now in 'relax before bed' mode)

This morning, I found the plant path book, and took it with me to sit in the car while Middlest got a covid test. I have now read three pages!
