November Group Read: Check in the Last

Slightly belated post this week, but there didn't seem much point having two separate posts for this week and the end of the month given they were only a couple of days apart this year!

So it's time to review your joys and woes for this month! Did you get through everything you wanted this month? Or did you read something entirely different? Discover anything new or odd about your reading habits? Did you start strongly then crash and burn completely half-way through the month? (Just me then?)

Did you saunter over your self-set target deadline or are you reading furiously right up to the final minute of the final day, just to finish one more book?

As of this evening, I'll have finished one book, made it halfway through another, and started on a third of four books on my list.

Not a bad showing, considering friends and the library joined forces this month to give me twice as many additional books to read--many of which I've already made progress on.

I did not hit my goal, which was admittedly kind of ridiculous, mostly because every single library request I had arrived as one lump. I still read a lot, and read at least a dozen books I wasn't getting to that had been around for ages, which cleared off most of a shelf. (A couple went to be donated, one was a DNF that's going to stick around for another shot in the future.)

Sigh, I ended up having much less time to read this month than I anticipated, and I fell far short of my goal, although I did manage to read around four hundred pages. I finished one book I had been stalled on for a couple of months and made a little progress in the other – but I didn't start any new books. Maybe I'll do better in December!

I did finish a decent-ish handful of books despite November giving me an absolute kick in the teeth in the second half that I'm still not really dealing with, blah.

Mostly food books and rpg books, but two Egypt textbooks found their way into the mix.

I finished 14, and was aiming for 10, but most of these were audiobooks as I've also been working on some projects (e.g. crocheting Christmas presents). I'm not displeased with the quantity - still books off the waiting to be read pile which is good.

I didn't get through the 7 books I listed originally - there are 1 1/2 left - Dissolution stumped me initially, but I've started over and am about 1/4 of the way through it now. Open Veins will have to wait until another time.

More disappointing was the amount I acquired (audible had a couple of sales on this month - so I acquired 16 *sigh* One day I will develop willpower and the ability to resist.

Tonight I finally made a bit more progress on A Stó:lō-Coast Salish Historical Atlas. I finished the timeline in Appendix A and started on Appendix B, but only got through the petitions and letters from the 1860s. Still about another 20 pages of petitions and letters to go.

My goal was to finish four items from a list of ten, I read three, DNF'd one, and looked at a couple of others. I'm happy with what I achieved, and understand why I just wasn't up to reading the others.

I was reading frantically up to the last minute (and a bit over) and I managed to finish one of my in-progress ones! So I have read:

Ahmed, Saldin; Throne of the Crescent Moon (partial)
Asaro, Catherine; Primary Inversion.
Duane, Diane. Spock's World.
McHugh, Maureen; Half the Day is Night.

Plus the first ~15 pages of the one I attempted to read but discovered was a sequel, Merchant of Dreams by Anne Lyle.

Not too bad, considering I also (re-)read all five Chanur novels plus Sense & Sensibility. (Plus a lot of fanfic.)

There's still a lot of To-Be-Read pile left, though! Wonder if anyone would like to do another challenge in February...?
