glinda: just trying to read (books/reading)

Apparently it will be November again soon? How did that happen?

Anyway, in the interim I've managed to collect a decent pile of books lurking around my shelves unread or half-read, and was trying to figure out how to motivate myself to read them. "I could do with a challenge or a deadline", I thought, then remembered it was nearly November, and perhaps other people also had an unread book pile taunting them...

For the uninitated or the forgetful, the November Group Read was inspired by the frantic scribblings of the Nanowrimo participants every year. For those of us who either aren't into writing or don't have the time/energy/inclination to write 50,000 words in a month, but would like a Novemember challenge too. It's evolved into a somewhat more informal conterpart here where people sign up to read a certain number of books that they own but have never got round to reading during November. I make weekly check in posts so people can report their sucesses or confess to their failures. It's very informal and only as competitive as you want it to be (every year I plan to read a book a week, one year I may indeed succeed.) Basically this can be as big or as little of a commitment as you feel up to. Dependant on your reading speed/available time you can sign up to read one book or ten books. Doesn't matter how big or small the book, only that its something that has been taking up space on your book shelf (or case/box/tottering pile beside your bed) for some time and you've never quite got round to it.

Anyone?
