Trainreads Challenge: check in
Dec. 13th, 2021 01:10 pmAnd apologies, I managed to post this yesterday to my personal journal not the community, so embarrassing, thank you to
fred_mouse for pointing that out.
How did we do this weekend?
(Next weekend I intend to run a 24-hour challenge and then the following two weekends are Not Typical because of Christmas/New Year in my country. I know
kalloway is planning a challenge 26-31 December, so we have that to look forward to!)

Date: 2021-12-13 01:11 pm (UTC)Ironically, I cancelled one of my journeys due to illness, but then decided to read as if I were on the train anyway - which was a lot more reading than I would have done otherwise. Then I got well enough to do my remaining planned travel and actually managed to read for most of it, so I count this as a success!
I successfully hit my main goals:
I didn't touch either of my stretch goals, but I had a surprise bonus because The Menopause Manifesto had come in for me at the library and I managed to read a few chapters of it on the train before switching back to SWBTS. I have been especially struggling to read non-fiction for most of the last two years, so that was a particular success as far as I'm concerned.
A couple of people asked about The Thursday Murder Club and I haven't managed to organise my thoughts into any kind of review but: I liked it, it's a surprisingly funny and kind book about murder and the secrets people carry, and of course about the danger of writing people off because they're old and frail. There's a lot of different viewpoint characters, and I appreciated that the author decided to make this clear by having one chapter per viewpoint, even if sometimes that led to very short chapters. I definitely intend to read the sequels, and I may come back to reread it again at some point. If you have more specific questions I can do my best to answer.

Date: 2021-12-13 05:17 pm (UTC)I got a few minutes to read on Saturday and yes, I think I'll snag the rest when I can. (Three volume series, so nothing too extravagant~)

Date: 2021-12-14 12:03 pm (UTC)I did actually read Ink Dark Moon, but very little of anything else alas because work was just that crazy and the weather was just as bad. So they stay put on the maybe-to-do pile for another time --
